Candidates for May 2012 Federation Election

At the May 17 Membership meeting, the new Federation officers will be elected. The following people were proposed as the 2012-13 nominee slate by the nominating committee.

Per the Federation's bylaws, the nominating committee has as its members a past president, two district council representatives and representatives from two member communities. The members of the nominating committee for 2011-2012 were past president Jeff Parnes, District Representatives Flint Webb and Chris Soules, and community representatives Don Hinman and Joe Gibson.

The candidates were asked for brief biographies for our consideration:

    Tania Hossain
    President: Tania Hossain
  • Tania has lived in Fairfax County since 1992 and currently resides in Merrifield located in Providence District.   She has served the Federation since 2006 and is its current President.  Along with her appointment as the Federation’s representative to the Partnership for Youth Board and the Partnership for a Healtier Fairfax Coalition, she has served on various countywide and statewide organizations advocating for a better quality of life for all Virginians.
    Tania looks forward to serving her third term as the next President of the Federation. She will continue to work to take the Federation back into the community; engage residents on countywide common concerns; and create networks to share solutions to common concerns. Tania is deeply grateful to the Federation Board for its work on behalf of the community and to its membership for being a steady guide in the work of the Federation.  She enjoys all that Fairfax County has to offer and works towards making a meaningful difference in the lives of others as an active and engaged citizen.

    Robert Jackson
    First Vice President: Robert Jackson
  • Rob Jackson served as president of the McLean Citizens Association from 2007-12 and as secretary of the Greater McLean Chamber of Commerce. He also represents the McLean community on the board of the Tysons Partnership, which is coordinating with Fairfax County on the redevelopment of Tysons. As MCA president, he ensured the incorporation of community input to the revised Comprehensive Plan for Tysons. Jackson has been active on a number of other issues, including battling the City of Falls Church’s water rate hikes; improving communication with VDOT, MWAA and their contractors for the HOT Lanes and Dulles Rail projects; working with county staff, planning commissioners, school board members, supervisors, state legislators and members of Congress on numerous projects; and presenting the MCA’s views to local and national media. He is an attorney affiliated with Marashlian & Donahue, LLC. Jackson has lived in McLean since 1987. He and his wife, Jean, have two children.

    Linda Boone
    Second Vice President: Linda Boone
  • Linda Boone served the Lafayette Village Homeowners Association, in Mason District, for over 6 years, including two years as its President. She is also the Incident Coordinator (Team A) of the Annandale High School Dispensing Center for the Medical Reserve Corps. Linda has worked 20 years for Fairfax County; 10 years in Human Services and currently with the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services in the Division of Solid Waste Disposal and Resource Recovery as Branch Chief. She also served as the President of her son's PTA at Paul VI Catholic High School for 3 years.
    Prior to this, Linda retired after 21 years in the United States Marine Corps where she held positions at the Recruit Depot San Diego; Warfighting College at Quantico; computers and legal administration with all 3 air wings; Director of the Family Services Centers while at Headquarters Marine Corps; and recruiting duty. She holds a Masters in Public Administration from the Bloch School of the University of Missouri, Kansas City, and a Bachelors of Science in Political Science and English from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
    Linda is the proud grandmother of Aoife. Her son and his wife are instructors at the U. S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Linda's hobbies include reading, community service work, gardening and walking/fitness.

    Scott Schlegel
    Treasurer: Scott Schlegel
  • Scott has been a resident of McLean and Fairfax County for over 30 years. He has served as the Federation's Treasurer for the past 4 years and looks forward to continuing in this role. He has also served as Vice President of the McLean Hamlet Community Association and other MHCA Board positions. As the parent of two young children, He is also active in McLean Little League and McLean Youth Soccer.

    Ed Wyse
    Recording Secretary: Ed Wyse
  • Ed has served the Federation as Recording Secretary since mid-2009. Since 2005 he also served as the Secretary of the Civic Association of West Springfield Village. His wife and he have resided in Fairfax County continuously since 1980, except for a three-year overseas assignment. He is a retired Army officer and former management consultant and enterprise architect. He has a B.S. in History and Political Science, an M.S. in Business Administration, an M.S. in Computer Information Systems and has certifications in Knowledge Management and as a Project Management Professional. In 2010 he completed Fairfax County’s Neighborhood College.

    Fred Costello
    Corresponding Secretary: Fred Costello
  • Fred has served the Federation as Land Use Chair since 2009 and as Federation Bulletin editor since July 2010. Since 2009, he also served as the representative of the Fox Mill Estates Homeowners Association to the Federation. He and his family have resided in Fairfax County continuously since 1975. He is a retired aerospace engineer and rocket scientist, having had his own consulting-engineering business from 1977 to retirement in 2008. He completed Fairfax County’s Land Use College program in preparation for his appointment by the County Board of Supervisors to serve on the Reston Master Plan Special Study Task Force, which is helping the County modify the Comprehensive Plan for the re-development of Reston.
